Characters

Martin plays Jonathan Solomon – A hardcore movie buff who sees himself as a rugged survivalist, after watching 12 hours of horror movies and playing Silent hill he is too paranoid and too caffeinated to sleep.

Jinty plays Jacob Klein – An ambitious and promising young surgeon from an upper middle class background, long shifts at the hospital powered by a cocktail of Pills and Coffee he cannot sleep.

The two people involved here are brought together by one incredibly unfortunate event, during this event detailed below reality shifts and things get weirder by the second.

Jacob was into his seventy second hour awake in the hospital taking shift after shift to bump up his hours of surgery, he gets out of the OR after a 3 hour surgery on a 10 year old kid, who was the unfortunate victim of a knifing and died as a result. As he was walking down the hall trying to think what he is going to say to the parents he found the tiredness hitting him again, but he downs more of his homemade cocktail to keep him going and dull the pain. At this point the phones in the hospital start to ring off the hook, people are running about frantically. Jacob's resident ran up to him, and told him to get a trauma and triage kit quickly and to get into the ambulance in front, which he did.

In the ambulance Jacob is told that there has been a mass casualty event, an explosion in the base of a residential building which has collapsed there are many dead and wounded but that we won't know the extent of the damage until they got there.

Meanwhile Jonathan was in his room putting another DVD on when he heard a deafening bang the window cracks up the centre and he suddenly gets the feeling of falling. He clambers out of his room and looks back to see the building across the street getting closer, and closer. Either it has just fallen over or the building he is in is falling ovthought. He hears scrambling in the rooms of John and Calum across from his, then the buildings collide with an almighty wham Jonathan is thrown against the wall and two loud pops, like large balloons, can be heard from each of his flatmates rooms. He is now lying on the wall remarkably unhurt he gets up and scrambles towards the front door leaving his flatmates only to see that the main stairwell has mostly collapsed, there may be a way across to the other side where the fire escape is but with the falling masonry and high voltage wires hanging out of the walls, he reconsiders checking on his flatmates.

He tries John's room closest to the front door and now positioned above him as the building appears to be on its side. He pushes and cannot really move it feeling a weight on the door. He shouts to his flatmates, and receives no answer. Pushing on Calums room door he also feels a weight on the door but not quite so heavy, he pushes it open to see into his flatmate's darkened room and what was hindering him falls over the edge of the doorframe, his flatmate's legs, from the knees down. He checks for a pulse and doesn't find one but shouts out anyway to see if he is hurt, and then the lights flicker back on. He didn't remember his flatmate painting his room, and such an awful shade of red. Giving up on this approach he decides to take his luck with the stairwell.

He makes it across to see several doors on this side of the building above and below him. The one above is locked and cannot be opened, at least not without some sort of leverage. The one below has someone inside, they cry for help saying that he is trapped. Jonathan decides to go and get help than climb in and do it himself and continues down the main corridor. He feels very warm in this part of the corridor and then takes a sniff to his horror reveal that what he can smell on the air is gas, the pipes must have ruptured when the building collapsed. Fire and gas not a good mix.

Outside Jacob arrives in the ambulance at the scene; it is mayhem firemen and paramedics running around. There are plastic sheets laid out for the categories of victims.

Green - non emergent
Yellow - delayed care
Red - begin immediately

There were not many in the green areas. There was still a cloud of debris in the air lowering the visibility. Jacob made his way through the debris to find a survivor that had been partially crushed by a support beam who became known as pancake man. He made his best attempt to help the man but found his injuries too severe and had to move on. As he was moving towards the building he could see a fire truck with firemen on the ladder helping people out of one of the buildings when he heard a noise and things got a bit slow.

There a loud sucking noise, like the building was taking a breath in near where the firemen were working, everyone slowed down as the building took a sharp breath out. The shockwave of the explosion was visible and horrific as it very slowly past through the firemen and the truck, propelling with it large pieces of debris he saw in slow motion as the flames reached the firemen, immolating them in their frozen positions of fear and surprise, then time sped back up. The fire truck was thrown back like a child's toy and Jacob was pushed down by a fireman to his left saving his life. Unfortunately the heroic fireman didn't survive his heroism. Pushing off the dead fireman Jacob was deafened by the explosion and leapt into action to save as many as he could. In the distance he could see what appeared to be two firemen, one senior arguing about why the gas main had not been turned off. At which point one of them ran off, presumably to deal with that.

Inside the building Jonathan heard the intake of breath from the building and instinctively leaps into the room he just passed with the man calling for help. Then the building explodes. Masonry, pots, pans and furniture fly everywhere as he took cover. Luckily he was uninjured even when he is so close to the gas explosion, the screaming trapped man in the room however unluckily was knocked unconscious by the falling masonry. Jonathan tried unsuccessfully to revive him and then got worried by the billowing smoke above and the sight of broken water pipes, which on one hand could be useful extinguishing the fires but on the other the exposed power lines and unconscious victims may be more of a threat.

Jacob then with help from one of the firemen entered the building to try and search for survivors. In the first room he found a woman in a kitchen area that had been impaled to one wall by a knife set. In an adjacent room he found a man in his mid 40's rolling in pain clutching his waist. He does what he can to help him knowing that if he cannot get him to a hospital he is done for and gets the fireman to get a stretcher and more help. While dealing with this man he notices a young boy underneath a sofa, unconscious. After a little time help comes and both victims are helped out the building, Jacob was now alone in the room and he chose to go unescorted into the building.

Finding that the other doors were locked he got a fire axe from the fire point on the wall of the corridor. He then moves along the corridor in a crawling position to lessen the damage from smoke inhalation. As he was crawling along he felt a clear sticky substance on the wall which burned on contact and then solidifies when he moves his hand away. The wall he was crawling along was covered in melted wax. Shortly after he broke into a room above him after hearing panicked cries for help. When he got in he saw a male figure covered from head to toe in melted wax, kneeling in a pool of melted wax.

The wax is completely covering the man apart from a small part of his face so that he can breathe. Jacob leaps in and grabs the man from the wax expecting to treat burns, and attempts to move the wax away from the mouth which seems to be being covered by the remaining wax, but despite his attempts he could not stop the wax. It covered his face and he fell to the ground and stopped moving, continuing to try and save the man he tried to scrape the now hardening wax away from his face only to find that the creature now in front of him has no discernible features anymore. It looks more like a manikin than a person. His mind reeling from this experience he logically decides that it must be a result of smoke inhalation and searches the rest of the flat to find the location of the panicked cries. When in one of the rooms above he heard a noise "Slurp . . . Slurp . . . Slurp" and poked his head out of the room door to see the manikin creature moving back to the pool of wax. When he gets down to the area there is nothing there, not even the manikin creature. So he resigned to search the rest of the building for survivors.

Jonathan at this point grabed a fire extinguisher and fire blanket from the kitchen and then did the semi-typical thing from a horror adventure, grabs a knife, and puts a pot on his head as a makeshift helmet. And makes his way out of the room to find a paramedic who might be able to help with the unconscious guy in the room, as his attempts so far to revive him have been unsuccessful. As it is now impossible to reach the fire exit due to the part of the building with the exit being aflame as a result of the explosion, he tried to find another way out. Going along the corridor he found an unlocked door above him which he opened and to his surprise, he was looking down on an old lady with white hair cooking brownies in an undamaged room which looks nothing like the building he was currently in and apart from it having a different direction of gravity from him it is night by the blackness he could see through the window in the room above him.

The old lay looked up and says hello to Jonathan and introduces herself as "an old lady" asking Jonathan if he would like a brownie. Jonathan who was still baffled by what he was seeing picks a nickel out of his pocket and tossed it up through the doorframe at which point it was caught in the gravity field of the room and falls to the floor in the room and the old lay picked it up. He then heard from down the corridor the sound of someone saying that they were a doctor and were looking for survivors, excusing himself he headed towards the sound of the voice, before he leaves the old lady, she called to him and says, "here's your coin dearie" as she tosses it back through the door frame and it entered the local gravity field and landed on Jonathan.

Meanwhile Jacob moved down the corridor calling out for people to call back to him if they needed help when he heard multiple screams coming from a room below him, seeing smoke coming from around the edges of the door he enters carefully to see a person alight burning and screaming in the centre of the room and four people, one in each corner of the room terrified by what they are seeing. Jacob then leapt into the room and ran into the kitchen area to find a fire extinguisher or something to put out the person who is on fire in front of him. He successfully found an extinguisher, pointed it at the base of the fire and sprayed. The fire goes out leaving nothing, not even the person that should have been in the centre. Yet another weird thing, he reeled back after extinguishing a fire elemental.

Then the building starts to collapse in on itself. He went to the nearest window and attracted the attention of the fire department members who moved a fire truck to a position where it could extend the latter to the window but it falls short of the window and the firemen indicate a window in an adjoining room which the ladder could reach. Jacob moved himself and the survivors through to the adjoining room to see that the window is very strange indeed. It leads into a very plush tiled floor area with tall bookshelves and a man wearing brown trousers and a tweed jacket who tells Jacob that he is a librarian, and offered his help with any book related query. Thinking that it is just the smoke getting to him and knowing that on the other side of this window there is a ladder with firemen on it he bodily throws each of the people through the window, which on contact ripples like a stone thrown into a pool of water and they disappear.

At this point Jonathan arrived in the room. And they both leap through the window except unlike the others they didn't pass through the illusion but instead fell into it and came to a stop at the feet of the librarian. They look back to see a portrait of a building collapsing which faded into grey. "Welcome to the Library, I am a librarian, can I see your library card please."
